Digital Photography
Digital imagery is used by many different industries. For instance, the medical field has the MRI and CAT scans, the military has the night vision goggles and radar, and the everyday consumer has digital photography. Digital camera shops will carry several items for the enjoyment of the avid professional or amateur photographers.
Digital cameras can allow for customizable features and settings so the photography can be true to form. In digital photography, you want to be able to duplicate what the human eye can see with minimal effort. The convenience of digital cameras has grown tremendously since their introduction in the 20th century. No matter if you are a person who simply wants to point and shoot their way through a day of fun, friends and family or the professional who is out on a shoot, the technology is catching up to our quite high expectations. The camera, flash, software, and environment are all extremely important to producing a work of art or that perfect snapshot.
Single Lens Reflex (SLR) digital cameras are types that are sought after by the professional. These are the closest you can get to having a camera similar to the traditional film camera. In-camera software allows the photographer to be able to perform easy manipulations so you don't need to produce extra effects through processing procedures. Canon and Nikon are the two most prevalent brands on the market. They offer the user weapons against camera shake, red-eye, blurriness, and processes that give your image good color. Good cameras that you can find in your digital camera shop also include some for the beginner such as the Canon Coolpix or Kodak EasyShare. Kodak's digital cameras hold up to the name behind much of photography's history, making them user friendly and easy to use.
A photograph's resolution determines what the sharpness and clarity of a photo may be and is comprised of dots (pixels). There are streams of data that the camera's sensors collect to produce the pixels of the image. The light variations in your scene will react differently on the CCD and CMOS sensors to produce the truest image possible. The ISO and dpi can be manipulated on an image-to-image basis. This allows the photographer to complete a number of different images in a single batch. You will have to be concerned about white balance, also, when a digital camera is being used. You need an awareness of computers, screen manipulations, screen resolutions, lighting, camera settings, and poses to bring your craft to perfection. The larger the photograph you wish to print, the higher the resolution you will want to have on your camera. This means that 3.1 megapixels may be good for the small images used on the Internet, but for large wall art, 5.0 megapixels is a great deal better.
Manipulation can also be done digitally, and this is largely one of the key points to digital photography. This can take care of bad imagery right away, so that the final print you send out to your friends or business associates will only be of the best quality. On the computer screen, in a program such as Photoshop, the user has the ability to change backgrounds, colors, delete wrinkles, and adjust smile lines, etc. Your photographs will only be as good as the craftsman behind Photoshop.
The demand in the marketplace for photographers to be able to instantaneously show their customers an image as they are taken has brought digital photography to the forefront. You can digitally shoot for emailing, sports, special events, family gatherings, and even news broadcasts. Photography as art is a growing field since the photograph can be tweaked and perfected to please many critics. The photographer's choice of camera should also be based on the lens' capabilities to perform the required tasks. When you are far away from your subject, in other words, you should make sure you have planned enough ahead to have a telephoto or zoom lens. The reverse would also take effect. You wouldn't want to only have a telephoto lens if you were doing extreme close-ups of a subject. Scanning and multiple shot camera backs are usually used for studio work, so you would wish to keep this type of camera away from a sporting event.
The advantages to digital photography are numerous, and you will be able to find most of what you need at a digital camera shop. The advantages include the following:
* Instant review of images with no processing time required.
* Extremely cost effective to proceed with.
* Hundreds of images are easily transportable amongst various digital and electronic media devices with little to none degradation within the image itself.
* The images are easily printable on most any printing device.
* Metatags can be permanently embedded for archival purposes. Most often, this is seen in the form of a date and time stamp on the photograph.
* Digital photography also allows for instant change from color images to black and white, sepia-tone or spot color. These options are either performed with the use of internal or external software.
* Multiple save modes are available: RAW (the proprietary software specific to each manufacturer), JPEG and TIFF. At times, you can save more than one type of image at the same time.
Features to be aware of when you are digitally photographing a subject follow.
* Image noise is formally known as film grain. This is found at the higher ISO settings.
* The speed at which you can digitally photograph will amaze you. This can save you time and money.
* Some styles of Nikon cameras can shoot eleven shots a second while some Canon brands will allow for over a hundred high res JPEGs to be shot before the buffer becomes full.
* Longevity is the key. Digital images can last forever, unless the data becomes corrupted. They are the perfect solution for archivists. They can be stored on any number of digital data devices, as well as a computer hard drive.
* Color reproduction can be true to life on many brands and models.
Digital camera shops will carry accessories, cameras, flash drives, external camera flashes, and software to make your digital photography a pleasant experience. Be aware of what you want to do with your camera so that you are able to make optimum use of your equipment to satisfy yourself, friends, and clientele.
